A trip to Beijing 9th-17th Dec Is it my imagination, or is that a nuclear power plant? So we landed, and took a long ride to our hotel where we rested for the day. Day 2: 10th Dec: Woke up early today and went to Summer Palace which is twice as big as Forbbiden City. Outside Summer Palace Stupid winter hat making me look so retarded. It was fcuking cold for me and my ears hurt if i didnt wear it, so i had no choice. ): After 1 and a half hours of being iceman, we had lunch and went to Forbbiden City for another 1 and a half hours. So much renovation going on there, they might as well call it the New Forbbiden City. Group Picture at Tiananmen Square After another 1 and a half hour, we exited from the front entrance since we came in from the back and took the underpass to Tiananmen Square where we saw thousands of China patriots braving the cold to witness the lowering of their nation's flag. In the evening, we visited the Underground Forbbiden City constructed in order to avoid the bombing during the Anglo-French attacks if i'm not wrong...i thought it was merely a visit. But wth! At the end of the underground passage there were some shops and the person bringing us around actually promoted they're goods which were blanket covers made of silk. Zzz...spend quite a bomb here. In the end, we spend more than half of our time there buying stuff instead of learning about the place. Smart people? Very. Day 3: 11th Dec: The 5-star hotel we stayed in rawks! "The Grand Epoch City". Its grand indeed, its said that the richest men on earth stayed there like 2 years ago when some meeting was held in China. We visited Ming Tombs at the foot of Tianshou Hill in the morning, something i cant be bothered with. What i mean is that it was boring. But definitely that was made up by the climbing of the Great Wall of China! Hurray, my first visit to one of the 8 man made wonders, where only 2 of them are left. Lol. Group Picture at the base of the climb at Juyong Pass Smiles(: i'm quite high up Okay the climb was ghey. Cold like mad at the bottom. Temperature is supposed to go down by 6.7 deg everyone 1000m increase in altitude. But the only difference i felt as i climbed up was that it was getting hotter! Hot Hot Hot! Sweat Sweat Sweat! I was drenched by the time i reached the first of those towers. So after 45 minutes of climbing upwards, my brother and i were the second and third respectively. Weee! We managed to reach the 5th tower, the supposedly highest point which can be seen from the base of the climb. There was a toilet there, but i decided to hold until i reach the base because it was so fcuking stink! After the climb, we went to sip different types of tea at a famous tea shop. Thankfully, we held back and didnt buy anything. Next, we went to watch a Beijing acrobatics performance by topless 6-pacs male chinamen. Okay lah, it was not bad. Oh yeah, and on our way to the Great Wall, we stop by at some Jade Factory Outlet Store. Spend a bomb there, in the thousands. Day 4: 12th Dec: Wah lao eh. Today was the most boring day. Visited Beihai Park and some other park. One interesting thing was that we met this old man in his eighties doing calligraphy, using a huge paintbrush, water as ink, and the concrete floor as paper. He told us that in order to live well, one must forget his age, life, and enemies. To live well, one must have money, good health, good companion, and lots of friends. In the evening we watched some kungfu performance, but i didnt enjoy it, because i wasnt feeling well. But what a coincidence, before the performance i met Matthew Yee, one of my 332 classmates whose a Brunei scholar. What a small world after all indeed. Oh yeah, and we spend another bomb today at Tong Ren Tang on medicines. In the thousands, again. Day 5: 13th Dec: Not feeling well + coughing + having a sore throat + having a headache + flu + phlegm = Fever. Yep, i was down with fever today. Sad huh, go holiday and kanna fever. But i didnt care, cause today was going to be yet another boring day. Thankfully with God's blessing i managed to recover in 1 day, thought till now i'm still coughing... Day 6: 14th Dec: Okay i have no idea whats that building...all i know is that we're at the Temple of Heaven Park which is 2 times bigger than Summer Palace if i'm not wrong. We took a 4hr busride to Chengde and arrived in the evening. The temperature was like omfg. Felt as if my lung froze each time i tried sucking in oxygen through my mouth. Day 7: 15th Dec: The day started off with a boring visit to Big Bell Temple and Little Potala Temple. Lol instead of paying attention to the tour guide, i was sipping my coffee and walking elsewhere with my brother. Okay it wasnt that the tour guide was lousy, it was our bad for not being able to endure the cold weather. Then we went to Chengde Summer Palace which was 8 times bigger than the Forbbiden City. Retardedly big, we had to take a mini bus from 1 point to another. We're walking on water! In the solid form of course... The day didnt improve as i had to endure the horrible 4hrs journey back to Beijing in the afternoon when the freaking sun was on my side throughout nearly the entire journey. But it did eventually when we were brought to a shopping centre. It was time for the slashing of prices! WOOOOOOOooooooo... I love today. It was fun. I bought a shoe, 2 shirts, and had my name carved on a stamp. Day 8: 16th Dec: I love today too. More slashing of prices in the morning. Sadly the first shopping centre i went to was unproductive, i didnt buy anything T_T After lunch, the people taking AirChina were allowed to shop for another 1 and a half hours since we were taking the night flight while those taking SQ had to leave early since theirs were the day flight. So we bid goodbye and it was more shopping! Boy, i'm shocked by my bargaining skills. Haha, and its really fun to bargain! Especially if u get the price u want. Bought a bag and a pants. Lol, sometimes i feel that those saleswomen are being like prostitutes, when u try to walk away they chase after u and grab u. In the evening we went to WangFuJing Shopping Street. There i saw the uniquely China food: fried scropions, centipedes, pig's penis, dont-know-who's testicles and many more wtf kinda food. YUCKS! The flight seemed real short, cause i managed to sleep in the plane(: First time. Dam...but i missed the meal. Day 9: 16th Dec: I'm in Singapore. Adapting back to my life. Would i go back to China? Sorry but no. Well maybe i might if its an all shopping trip with friends. More or less i did learn something during this trip and gained some experience in China, so i would say the trip was fruitful. The trip was more like reliving the past in China as an emperor where all u had to do was get entertained, eat and sleep. But if i had a choice, i rather be a normal civilian living in Singapore in the 21st century.
I'm back!
...that was a few hours ago before i ate, slept, woke up, and ate again.
Weeeee...i love Singapore. The air, the warmth by the overhead sun, the greenery, the less oily and salty food, the uniquely Singaporeans singlish language, the broken chinese, the different races, my friends and especially my house(:
Well, of course, i did enjoy the trip to Beijing. Not everything but certain things only, sadly.
Day 1: 9th Dec:
Took a 6hrs flight through AirChinas (its budget, but not budget budget) and arrived in Beijing at ard 3.45pm. As we started to decend over China, i noticed something odd.
